In my opinion, my work form this year shows tremendous growth compared to my work from last year. Overall the quality and craftsmanship of my work has gone up, which is something I was very intentional about this year. I wanted all of my work to be of the highest possible quality, and to demonstrate my strongest skills as an artist. Throughout the year I also got to branch out and explore different media and styles of art, as well as create a 3D piece, and I think these opportunities have helped broaden my capabilities as an artist. I got to work with charcoal for the first time, and continue to develop my watercolor and graphite skills, which I think will help me find what media I prefer and refine my skills using those media. I think one of my largest challenges this year was coming up with my own ideas, or ideas inspired by vague statements. In the 2016-2017 school year, most of the pieces I created came from specific assignments or prompts that limited the ways I could go with a project. This year, most assignments were only centered around an idea, media, or statement, which meant I had to come up with most of the projects. This was not a bad thing, and I enjoyed having the freedom to use subject matter that I wanted. I like many of the pieces I created this year more than those I created last year because of this. However, it was a challenge at times when I did not have an idea, because this caused me to spend a lot of time researching and trying to decide what I wanted to create rather than time on the actual project. Overall, I don't think this had a large impact on my work though, and I an very happy with my work from this year. Next year I am planning on taking AP Art, and I hope that the skills I have been developing this year and last will help me to find a medium and style that I want to focus on and continue to explore.
